Home sweet home

From Karin:

I love our house!  I know Peter posted a picture of our view, which is lovely, but the inside of the house offers some serious competition...it is beautiful.  We are lucky enough to be in a house that is more than I ever thought we'd be able to have for our little getaway to Maui.  It's in a very quiet neighborhood called Haiku Hill, perched high above the coastline overlooking the North Shore and Ho'okipa Beach, an internationally known windsurfing beach.  We visited the overlook the other day to watch the action down below and quickly determined that this is as close as we'll get to windsurfing on Maui.  We also learned how to say the name of the beach the correct way.  We had been saying "Who-ki-pah"...just the way it looks.  It's actually "Ho-oh-keepa" so now I really sound like a local.  No, really, I completely blend in around here....

The location of our house makes for great views, a constant breeze, lots of green space to play and complete peace and quiet.  With a lanai that wraps around 3 sides of the house, there's plenty of space to sit outside to read, rest and eat our meals.  Fortunately, the house is also closer to "civilization" than I thought it would be...just a 20 minute drive back to Kahului, the main city on the island.  Here, we can indulge in Krispy Kreme, IHOP, Jamba Juice, Starbuck's, etc. and we have already made significant financial contributions to WalMart, Costco, Old Navy and Safeway.  It's nice to have access to the things we need (diapers, coffee and bulk quantities of meat), but then be able to retreat to our little house on the hill.

Just up the road from our neighborhood is the town of Haiku...a "don't blink or you'll miss it" kind of town....with a market, a yoga studio, a few small restaurants and some other essentials.  We're going to the North Shore Cafe for breakfast tomorrow morning, an open air cafe where all the breakfasts are $5.75.  This seems like a great deal, unless you mind having roosters share a table with you.  We've been to the market where things are only slightly more over priced than the rest of the high priced grocery stores and I got the schedule from the yoga studio.  I have quickly learned that this yoga studio is a serious place with instructors that come from all over the world to teach here.  It's an intimidating place for a novice like me for lots of reasons, mainly because my name isn't Rain and I prefer to shave my armpits.  More on this after I've actually taken a class, but these are my early impressions.....

The kitchen/dining room end of the great room
The living room end of the great room.  Check out the flat screen...perfect for the Final Four and the Masters.
The master bedroom...finally, a king sized bed!
Davis' room.  Currently, Grammy and Pop's.

  1. Maybe you should change your name to Rain and make some different choices about personal hygiene? I love the house - it looks perfect! I was missing you guys today as we were all outside for the afternoon, with lots and lots of kids playing and playing until dinner.
