Halfway to Hana

From Peter:
Yesterday we drove part of the way to Hana - the Hana Highway is one of Maui's most famous, frequently visited, and picturesque ... places? drives? events? sights?  I'm not quite sure how to label it, but it is quite an experience.  Because of our location on the north shore, we actually live right off of the Hana Highway making our house a great jumping off point for the trip.  We hadn't made any plans and noon had come and gone so Karin decided to take us part of the way out.  The guide books reference the 600+ turns (though I don't know how you would count them - it is impossible to tell where one ends and the next begins - I think a better count would be "stretches of road that are straight for more then 100 yards" - this number might be has high as 15...)  Based on the pictures you might not believe it but Karin did go on this trip with us...

Davis' first waterfall.
I ventured down the path a bit more to get some close ups.  This is Lower Pouhokamoa Falls, about 200 feet high.  My stitching together is not perfect but it gives you a good idea of the view.

Haipua'ena Falls, we ventured into the pool but Davis didn't want to swim.
I did not surf this particular wave but I did take this picture.  It is nearly impossible to take a picture of a wave while you are riding it.
The statement above this picture was carefully worded, completely true and probably misleading...

Just another day on the coast.
Thanks Grammy for not letting him fall in.
Thanks also for Davis' new favorite show, as he calls it "Dancing with the Dancing Stars."  We had to be home from our trip in time for the two of them to watch the results show.
(My money is on Hines Ward vs Chelsea as the final 2...)
A reminder that Maui is a pretty young island in the grand scheme of things.
We're ready for some banana bread (the specialty of the roadside stands) and a quiet ride home...

  1. Oh Peter. This post was so clearly written by you it's not even funny. I definitely miss you in the math department. I even had to carry up the water today since you aren't around... Glad you're having such fun!
