Fast friends and a trip to the ER

From Karin:

We've been lucky enough to enjoy the company of my good friend Kristine and her family this week.  Kristine's husband, Tag, is a professor who is also on sabbatical and who also made the wise choice to "drag" his family to Hawaii.  Unlike us, they are here for 5 months as Tag blends business with pleasure, collecting more research data about a particular species of turtle that he has been studying.  Kristine and I have been friends since Bucknell and it has been an absolutely wonderful reunion.  Needless to say, there has been a lot of reminiscing, laughter and constant quizzing of each other's memories.  "Do you remember when your lava lamp exploded?"  "Do you remember the epic cake fight on your 21st birthday?"  As you can see, we're discussing really important stuff.  In all seriousness, it's been great to share part of this experience together, to feel like we picked up right where we left off and to watch our kids quickly become good friends.  Davis and Benji are two peas in a pod, Alice runs after them trying to catch up and Carter, well, he just coos a lot.

The downside to their visit was Kristine's trip to the ER.  While I appreciate the fact that we now know more about the hospital here, we really could have just asked around for the info.  We now know that you have to wait a really long time to be diagnosed with a staph infection, be put on an IV drip, have your finger drained and then bandaged so it looks like a small weapon.  We also now know that this type of infection is fairly common here so you need to treat each little cut or scrape.  Fortunately, she caught the infection in her finger early, is off the pain meds and is on the mend.  We've spent a day at Baby Beach, they drove the road to Hana yesterday and today we're heading back up Haleakala with them to explore more parts of the national park.
Alice, 22 months
Wrestling at the playground.  Fortunately, Benji is also an off-the-charts 3 year old so he can give Davis a run for his money.  They laughed the whole time.
Having fun at Baby Beach.
Looking at clouds.
Play hard, crash hard.
